Vor ein paar Tagen habe ich euch deutschsprachige Neuveröffentlichungen im Genre vorgestellt, die mich neugierig machen.
Wie versprochen folgt heute ein Überblick über die Fantasy-Neuerscheinungen in englischer Sprache, die mich reizen würden.
Bis auf eine Ausnahme wird’s diesmal total königlich, habe ich gerade festgestellt. Ich hoffe, es ist auch was für euch dabei.
Fantasy im Februar – die englische Edition
Worum es geht:

“Glass Sword” ist die Fortsetzung von “Red Queen” und ehrlich gesagt, von dem Buch war ich begeistert.
Ich dachte erst: Nicht schon wieder eine Dystopie, die noch dazu nach einer Kreuzung von “Selection” und “Panem” klingt. Aber Victoria Aveyard hat mich total abgeholt und mitgerissen.
Seit ich das Hörbuch zu Band 1 im vergangenen Jahr fertig gehört habe, warte ich händeringend auf die Fortsetzung. Jetzt ist nur die Überlegung, ob ich nicht doch auf das deutsche Hörbuch warte, statt gleich auf Englisch zuzuschlagen.
Sophie Jordan: Reign of Shadows
Worum es geht:

Eine Prinzessin, die sich in einem Turm versteckt und sich in einen Bogenschützen verliebt – das klingt romantisch und märchenhaft genug, als dass ich dem Buch eine Chance geben möchte.

Fairy Tale Fantasy!
Und ich bin überrascht, wie sehr die orientalischen Märchen auf dem Vormarsch sind. Nach zwei Scheherazade-Varianten und Liz Braswells “A Whole New World” ist das schon wieder ein Roman, der von den Märchen aus Tausenduneiner Nacht inspiriert ist.
Aber wie gesagt: Für Märchen-Fantasy bin ich immer zu haben; der Orient ist ein Setting, der noch nicht so abgegriffen ist – und ich bin jetzt einfach mal gespannt, wie sich Jessica Khoury schlägt.

Ein Titelbild, dass mich total anspricht, ein Klappentext, der mich total neugierig macht – und Patricia McKillip.
Ich liebe die poetischen, märchenhaften Romane der Autorin (auch wenn ich bisher weder die Erdzauber-Trilogie aus ihrer Feder, noch ihr Debüt Die vergessenen Tiere von Eld gelesen habe).
Kingfisher ist für mich ein Must-Read. Fragt sich nur, wann ich dazu komme.

Warum es mich interessiert:
Ich mag Marissa Meyers Luna Chroniken wirklich total. Wenn ich mich daran zurückerinnere, dass ich vor ein paar Jahren noch vermutet hab, dass eine SciFi-Version von Cinderella, die als Cyborg statt eines Schuhs gleich ihren ganzen Fuß verliert, mich nicht interessieren würde, dann muss ich schmunzeln. Die Serie gefällt mir wirklich gut.
Auch wenn ich zugeben muss, dass ich noch mitten in “Winter“, dem finalen Band der Reihe stecke, und es mich nicht so packt, wie ich mir das wünschen würde. Und ich mich frage, wie sehr mich neun Kurzgeschichten wirklich reizen und inwiefern sie das Universum der Lunar Chronicles tatsächlich erweitern.
Ist es dekadent, dass ich zugebe, dass ich auf Stars Above vor allem neugierig bin, weil die Anthologie auch die ersten beiden Kapitel von Marissa Meyers im Herbst erscheinenden Roman “Heartless” enthält? Schlimm, oder?
C.J. Redwine: The Shadow Queen
Worum es geht:

Und eine weitere Fairy Tale-Fantasy. Diesmal: Schneewittchen.
Als ich den Plot gelesen habe, habe ich mir gedacht: Mit etwas Glück ist Schneewittchen/Lorelai eine wirklich toughe Heldin. Ich hätte so gern “Snow White and the Huntsman” geliebt, denn der Trailer hat mich damals von den Socken gehauen. Der Film leider nicht. Der hatte eher viel zu viele “WTF? Ist das euer Ernst”-Momente.
“The Shadow Queen” könnte jetzt genau diese magische Bad Ass-Schneewittchen-Variante sein, die ich mir erhofft habe (und die ich eigentlich längst hätte selbst schreiben wollen).

Hat jemand von euch Redwines “Defiance“-Serie gelesen? Taugt die was?
Worum es geht:

Warum’s mich interessiert:
Veronica Rossis ersten Band ihrer Dystopie-Trilogie (“Gebannt – Unter fremdem Himmel“) fand ich seinerzeit gar nicht schlecht. Wiederum aber auch irgendwie nicht gut genug, als dass ich mir Band 2 und Band 3 besorgt hätte.
Zudem hat “Riders” offenbar keine weibliche Hauptfigur, und auf die steh ich in YA-Romanen total. Deshalb bin ich hier auch total hin- und hergerissen. Aber irgendwie spannend klingt es ja schon.
Ich glaube, ich warte die ersten Reviews mal ab.
