Category: News – Darkstar – 20:12

Every Heart A DoorwayWhat happens if you visited a magical otherworld as a child but now the doors are closed?

Seanan McGuire is praised by critics and readers as well for her outstanding WAYWARD CHILDREN series.

To celebrate the release of the german translation, the author kindly answered me seven questions on the series:

INTERVIEW WITH SEANAN MCGUIRE

Which keywords describe the atmosphere of of your multiverse-series WAYWARD CHILDREN best?

Thoughtful; gradual; certain.
These words are the touchstones around which the entire book turns.

The setting is quite complex. What sparked the idea to create this series?

Like many of us, I grew up reading a steady diet of portal fantasies and grand adventures, which always ended when the protagonists went home.

I wanted to know what happened to them after the doors closed.

Der Atem einer anderen WeltWhat do you enjoy most in writing WAYWARD CHILDREN stories and which (of the first three) novellas has been the hardest to write yet and why?

I enjoy the scope and freedom of it all.

Sometimes the responsibility can be a little weighty–these books mean so much to people, and I want to be sure I handle them correctly, for the sake of my readership.

If you’d stay for a week at Eleanor Wests, who would you choose as roommate and why?

As an adult, I’d be able to stay in the quarters for older students, and wouldn’t need a roommate.

That’s a good thing, since I don’t sleep well when there’s someone else in the room with me!

You’ve been praised both for your imaginative worlds as well as for your diverse characters. Have there been Readers on the other hand which did respond with critisism about the non-heteroformaty of your novels?

Yes, absolutely.

But there are hundreds upon hundreds of books for them, and I am not concerned with catering to an audience that’s already so thoroughly catered to.

Discount ArmageddonWhat are you currently working on?

I’m currently working on the next book in my InCryptid series.

If you could invite a bunch of fictional characters for a tea party: who would it be and why?

I’m not a tea drinker, but I would happily sit down for hot cocoa and cookies with all the portal fantasy protagonists whose lead helped me to get this far!

Thank you!
