Aschenputtel-Romane gibt es wie Sand am Meer. Es gibt klassische Nacherzählungen, historische Varianten, humorvolle, romantische, futuristische und sogar welche, in denen Cinderella eine Ninja-Kämpferin ist.
Jetzt kommt ein neuer Roman mit dem Titel “Mechanica” dazu. Autorin Betsy Cornwell beschreibt ihn als “eine Steampunk-Nacherzählung von Cinderella in einem alternativen Viktorianischen London”.
Statt einer guten Fee besitzt ihre Hauptfigur Nicolette ein Pferd, Jules, das komplett aus Metall und Glas geschaffen wurde.

Klingt spannend, wie ich finde.
Mich stört es auch nicht, dass Cornwell ein klassisches Thema neu interpretiert, schlussendlich ist doch ohnehin so gut wie alles schon mal da gewesen und die neuen Gewänder, in die die alten Geschichten jetzt verpackt werden, sind oft sehr interessant.
Außerdem bin ich gespannt, ob sich – wie in Cornwells ersten Roman “Tides“, in dem es um den Selkie-Mythos geht, – queere Charaktere in die Handlung gesellen.
